Overview
The Wulin is a long scroll unrolled. On it are not only the quiet household affairs of little bridges and running streams, but the songs heroes sing when they go to their deaths. What this history shows us most is the Wulin’s tangled slaughter, its fearless dying, and its deep loyalties. But where is the truth? Some of it has been rewritten, some of it is still waiting to be dug out, and some of it has already been buried in the dust.
The Wulin’s Three Great Upheavals

Before The Order Was Founded
- In the distant past the Heavenly Tome appeared, and laid the foundations of martial study in the Phantom World.
- Decades ago came the Tianling Massacre: eleven great names of the Wulin vanished, and in time they became “the Council of Eleven.”
- The Bastion of Mó rose, and became the first demon cult under heaven.
- The Bastion of Mó fell. Its lord, Mo Tian, and his elder son, Mo Jian, died in the fighting; the second son, Soul, was carried off and raised by strangers.
After The Order Was Founded
- Year 1 of The Order: Mu Tianmiao founds The Order, and it becomes the most secretive and the strongest assassins’ order in the Wulin.
- Year 12 of The Order: Soul is born.
- Year 22 of The Order: Mu Xiaokui is born.
- Year 13 of The Order: the Tianling Massacre.
- Year 30 of The Order: the Battle of Mirage. Soul and Zuo Shang break Mirage and expose the hand behind it, Xuanyu.
- Soul and Zuo Shang become the youngest Nether Envoys of The Order: “Black Wound” and “Zi Ming.”
Civil War Within The Order
- Year 40 of The Order: Zuo Shang lays a scheme that turns Soul and Xuan Yu to his use, and Mu Tianmiao is killed by a mistaken hand.
- Soul is hunted by the whole The Order, and is gravely wounded in a duel to the death with Zuo Shang.
- Soul accepts the Poisoned-Heart art from Ghost Hand, and is left with sixty-six days to live.
- The Cloud Terrace Massacre in Yecheng: most of the Wulin’s sect masters die by violence.
- In the last sixty-six days of his life, Soul sets out on the road from which there is no coming back — to end every debt, every kindness, every hatred, and every love.
After The Order’s Fall
- After the duel between Soul and Zuo Shang, The Order’s strength is badly spent.
- The Wulin enters a new age of upheaval.
- Phantom Blade Zero takes place in this period.
