The last clan head of the Long family: shrewd, resourceful, a man of consequence two generations removed, who crossed swords with Mó Shaocheng, head of the House of Mó, time and again.
He was the father they all shared — “the nine children of the Long family.” And among his children, Long Tairan always favoured his fifth son above the rest: Long Wu.
In The Order’s tenth year, Long Tairan died suddenly and inexplicably, his cause of death a mystery. It marked the formal end of the Wulin’s “Long Tairan–Mó Shaocheng” era, and it was the prelude to the downfall of the Long family.
Unfathomable as the old master of the Long was in martial arts, in all his decades of campaigning through the Wulin he put only three people to death with his own hand.
Long Tairan’s sword: Dragon Vein Stratagem
After the siege of Mó Shaocheng — who bore the Black Demon Wound — ended in defeat, he returned his sword, “Dragon Vein Stratagem,” to its sheath and never drew it again, and from then on he never tired of teaching his heirs that the power of stratagem is far greater than that of the sword arts.
