Phantom Blade Zero runs as a wide-linear sequence of seamlessly joined maps, each with a pocket of lighter diorama-style exploration and side content filling the gaps. Players travel between maps through bells, sail across water, and use Phantom Edges to open special interactions in the scene.
The levels themselves mostly loop: the main path curls back to where it started, shortcuts cut across it, and ladders climb so fast it feels almost like a teleport, so map traversal runs lighter than it looks. The industrial district has a large lake in the middle that you cross on a fast boat — there is no way around it.

Collectible Types
The map collectibles in Phantom Blade Zero fall into at least the following seven types. In game you can check how many collectibles a map holds in total and what percentage you have finished.
1. Bells
Touching a bell for the first time clears the fog around it on the minimap. A bell restores your combat resources, and bells connect to one another for travel (a Transit Talisman lets you travel from anywhere).
2. Weapons and Phantom Edges
Weapons and Phantom Edges lie scattered across the maps for the taking; some of them can only be reached with a particular Phantom Edge.
3. Accessories and Potion Bottles
Accessories and potion bottles that can be picked up on the maps.
4. Challenge Sites
Special challenge fights on the map; clearing one earns you a reward.
5. Sha-Chi Amber shards
Each shard raises the cap of the Sha-Chi gauge by 10%. See Sha-Chi Amber.
6. Blackstone shards
Each shard raises attack power and stagger power by 10%. See Blackstone.
7. Memory Flowers
A complete Memory Flower raises the health cap by 10%. See Memory Flowers.
Quest System
- Quest icons are marked on the map, and icons of different colours stand for different things
- Some quests need quest items collected first, or a mechanism set going
- Some side quests cannot be recovered once their window has passed
- Some side quests are tied to the NPCs of Pangzhen Township
Story Collectibles
Beyond the map collectibles there are the story collectibles — notes, letters and the like — scattered across the maps; once picked up, their text can be read in the inventory.
